INDREK LAUL

Indrek Laul (b. Estonia 1968) continues the musical tradition of his family. His mother, Reet Laul, is a concert pianist and his father, Venno Laul, the Founder and for thirty years the Chief Conductor of the Estonian Boys’ Choir.

In 1981, when Indrek was thirteen, studying at the Music School of Tallinn, he won the First Prize and a Special prize performing Rakhmaninov at the International Competition in Czechoslovakia. Five years later Indrek entered the Tallinn Conservatory, studying with Kalle Randalu. He continued his education with Arbo Valdmaa in Belgrade, and in 1989 Mr. Laul was awarded First Prizes at piano competitions in Yugoslavia. In 1990 he completed his studies at the Belgrade Academy of Music graduating Summa cum Laude with three special awards. Entering The Juilliard School in New York the following year, this gifted pianist received the prestigious Horowitz Scholarship after his first term, completing his Master’s and Doctoral degrees with pianists Peter Serkin and Martin Canin. In 2005, Indrek Laul was named one of The Juilliard’s top 100 graduates at its 100^th Anniversary Celebration.

During his years at Juilliard, and thereafter, Dr. Laul had the foresight to start his acquisition of Estonia Piano’s shares, eventually purchasing the factory from the company’s managers. Dr. Laul is the owner and president of this growing Estonian firm which makes and exports, mainly to North America, grand pianos named ESTONIA www.estoniapiano.com.

His concerts have been reviewed as "Indrek Laul played perfectly!" in Sirp (Estonia), "Laul played brilliantly" in Kulturni Zhivot (Yugoslavia), and "...a pianist of formidable technical and interpretative gifts." in Daily News (New York). Dr. Laul has been written of in Forbes, Forbes Global, Home and Design, LA Times, Chicago Tribune and Miami Herald.

Other recordings for Consonant Works include two solo CD’s of his favorite Liszt compositions, titled My Favorite Liszt Vol. I and II, and four romantic piano concertos: Tchaikovsky No. 1, Liszt No. 1, Grieg A-Minor and Rakhmaninov No. 2. All discs have been produced and released by Dr. Ronald A. Stordahl, founder of Consonant Works and Digi-Key Corporation.

Dr. Laul lives in Stony Point, New York with his wife Triin who is also a pianist, and two young sons, Jakob and Bruno.
